Michael and Amber Miller’s business started with a desire to spend more time together. “We always dreaded being apart during a long week of work,” Michael Miller recalls. They most enjoyed the time they spent together volunteering, visiting with friends and family, and enjoying their hometown of Charleston.

The pair often house- and pet-sat for friends, and Miller says, “Each time we finished caring for a home, our friends would rave about how clean we left their homes.” They had friends who had owned successful residential and janitorial services, and thought a residential cleaning service would be the best business path for them.

But in their first 10 months in business, Pristine Reflections only had three clients. The couple decided to contact SCORE in November 2014.

How SCORE Helped: 

Mentors Rick Norman and Fern White helped Pristine Reflections determine marketing strategies. White focused on online marketing, SEO, and website development, while Norman helped with the company’s business plan. “I have learned more about taxes than I ever wanted to learn,” Miller says. Michael and Amber met with their mentors several times over the course of the first few months of their relationship; they then met in person every few months and now keep in touch mostly via email.

My Successes: 

“Our had work combined with the help from Fern and Rick helped us meet our five-year goal in one year!” Miller reports. “We now receive at least 10 new calls or tails each month, which is more than we can handle. We have actually started a waiting list.” Pristine Reflections has added three part-time employees, who have helped the company win the Angie’s List 2015 Super Service Award.
